The Food Security and Agriculture Rehabilitation Measures in Conflict Affected Regions of Ethiopia (FARM) project aims to assist in the recovery of smallholder farmers and agricultural infrastructure in the conflict-affected regions of Amhara, Tigray, and Afar in northern Ethiopia. The project focuses on agriculture rehabilitation measures (relaunching and restarting agricultural activities) in the conflict-affected areas of Northern Ethiopia and on laying the foundations for an agro-ecological and resilient agricultural ecosystem transition of the Ethiopian agricultural sector.
The FARM project has two distinct but interlinked components. Component one focuses on short term interventions aiming at restarting agricultural activity in the regions affected by the crisis, while Component two focuses on a long-term component geared towards enhancing agricultural capacities and promoting agro-ecological practices.
Component 1 focuses on short term interventions aiming at restarting agricultural activity in the regions affected by the crisis served as emergency support for a maximum of 24 months, to create input access and livelihood normalization for about 533 000 conflict affected beneficiary farmers in 60 woredas of the three regions of Amhara (40), Tigray (16) and Afar (4 ).
Component 2: This is a long-term component aiming at rehabilitating and enhancing the capacity to produce, multiply and exploit improved plant and bee genetic material, and promote agro-ecological practices through service providing institutions to generate, multiply agroecology based technology and to capacitate smallholde farmers. This component focused on rehabilitating conflict affected service providing (multiplication and technology generation) institutes which can support smallholder farmers and transit the farming system to agro-ecological and climate smart agricultural practices in sustainable ways.
The FARM project is a collaborative initiative implemented through a governance structure that engages stakeholders at all levels, from national to Kebele.
