The Distributed Renewable Energy-Agriculture Modalities (DREAM) project aims to demonstrate the viability of solar mini-grids as a solution for improved irrigation, greater agricultural productivity, rural electrification, and enhanced gender and social inclusion. The DREAM project catalyzes private investment to scale up solar mini-grids in isolated, small-scale horticultural farmland within the ACC program. The project brings together government institutions and private sector partners to pilot nine mini-grid irrigation sites across four regions, boosting production and income for over 2,977 households. It also implements various productive uses of electricity, benefiting an estimated 14,885 people at nine selected sites.
The project covers the irrigation infrastructure and part of the mini-grid, and facilitated concessional loan for the remaining mini-grid costs. It also provides advisory services, technical assistance, and professional training for staff and farmers on irrigated horticulture production.
